In 2014, around 76% of the UK used the internet everyday which is near 36 million adults, this figure is over 21 million more people than 2006. This is due to the advancements in technology as people now have the option to access the internet through portable devices such as smartphones as it doubled from 2010 to 2014 as the figures state it went from 24% to 58%.
In Great Britain, 22 million households had internet access which was 84% in comparison to 2006 when only 57% of GB has access, this is a vast improvement and a possible reason could be the increased need for access, for social use and personal use as it has changed the way that the world communicates.
Businesses acknowledged the opportunities that they could make use of as a wider market can be reached through the use of e-commerce.
Young Adults are the highest users of the internet in the UK as they are the most frequent users of social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. 91% of internet use is used for social networking. One reason for the increase in internet use is gaming as four In ten adults use the internet now to play games which is an increase from 35% in 2012 to 42% in 2014.
